2. Announcing three public organization design programs. Many clients have asked us to offer public organization design programs. We are pleased to announce three workshops in New York City—one for managers and leaders, and the other for human resource and organization development professionals.

Complex Organization Design: Advanced Practitioner Workshop (February 10–11, 2009). Amy Kates of DKA and Greg Kesler of CHRS will lead a case-based, intensive workshop for experienced internal OD professionals and external consultants. In this session we'll look at how organizations need to change along with business models, what smart companies are doing to reduce costly infrastructure and focus on value in the current economic down draft, and how to make the move into new markets and geographies. Organization Design: An Essential HR Capability (March 10–11, 2009) Amy Kates will lead this two-day workshop that has been especially designed to build capability in internal human resource and organization development practitioners. Amy Kates and Jay Galbraith’s new book focuses on special applications in organization design including designing around the customer, coordinating across geographic borders, designing a successful matrix, designing for innovation, configuring the corporate center, and solving the dilemmas of centralization and decentralization. Amy will focus on developing content on the topic of building the strategic HR function for this journal, previously known as the Human Resource Planning journal.
