Who we are

Downey Kates Associates (DKA) is a small, dynamic management and organization development consulting firm based in Lower Manhattan with a global network of associates. We use a participative approach grounded in workplace democracy to help our clients develop strategies and plans, manage the process of change, and increase team effectiveness. 

What we need

We are looking for a bright, motivated, and hard-working individual for a position on our team. This position will provide support for the President and Senior Consultants. This is a full-time position that requires some evening and weekend hours in periods of greater activity.

We need a self-disciplined, mature team player with excellent computer skills (Windows 2000/XP, Microsoft Office - Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel "whiz" wanted - FileMaker Pro, Photoshop/Graphics Programs helpful. Strong writing and verbal communication skills are also strongly desired. The best candidate would be able to take direction, communicate and work as part of a team, demonstrate an eagerness to learn and show a “hands-on” willingness to get the job done. Best past performers have had a combination of creativity and detail orientation.  Self motivation and ability to work unsurprised is vital. A college degree is helpful but not required.

Typical tasks might include:

Produce materials for meetings and courses

  • Input and format handouts, presentations, course materials, reports and other DKA materials; Edit material to ensure consistency of style is maintained throughout; Proof documents to ensure rules of grammar are adhered to

  • Strong information management and computer skills required (setting up, searching folders/ducment management)

Create graphics

  • Create graphics using various software packages (must excel at the use of PowerPoint and Word; must be proficient in using Excel graphic capability; prefer skill in using PhotoShop); Translate consultant specifications or ideas into graphics – must have strong graphic design sense and style

If requested, provide administrative support at meetings/off-sites or courses

  • Draft and edit materials; synthesize project data into professional reports for distribution; Provide off-site support, including logistics and word processing

If requested, conduct research (Internet, library)

Maintain and troubleshoot user software and hardware/network (experience with home and/or office networking a plus)

General office administration including:

  • Answer/screen telephone calls and relay accurate and timely messages

  • Manage executives schedule: Make appointments; confirm meetings

  • Assist in bookkeeping (track expenses, create invoices, reconcile petty cash)

  • Fulfill general admin duties including filing, shipping, drafting letters, supplies, vendors

  • Handle team scheduling and travel and meeting arrangements

What we offer

This is an excellent opportunity for someone to gain exposure and contacts in the business world and experience personal growth. We provide on-going development and training opportunities. The starting annual salary will be $40,000 and we offer bonus potential. Salary will rise commensurate with demonstrated development. After three and six months, respectively, you will be eligible for enrollment in the company health insurance and retirement plans.
